Two of them had as their central figure the lawyer, former magistrate and politician Eva Joly, who, like me, is Franco-Norwegian. When she told me six years ago about the creation of Icrict (the Independent Commission for International Corporate Tax Reform), I quickly realized that this commission of experts committed to fighting the most powerful players in the global economy was the subject of a film.\n\nThe film follows several interwoven narrative threads. To understand the key mechanisms behind multinational tax evasion, TAX WARS goes back almost a century to understand how an agreement reached within the framework of the League of Nations (SDN, forerunner of the UN) enabled multinationals to develop extremely effective tax avoidance strategies.\n\nThis is the background to ICRICT&#8217;s fight for tax justice. I wanted to show how the mobilization of citizens could change things in the face of the hyper-power of multinationals and the atony of governments.
